Hip-hop fans who will salivate at this reissue likely already know some of the backstory: in 1995, worldwide Wu-Tang frenzy was at an all-time high. First, of course, there had been the Wu-Tangs epic 1993 debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which changed the shape of hip-hop to come, with ripples that still resonate today. Then the solo albums, all produced by Wu patriarch RZA: first was Method Mans Tical (late 1994), then Ol Dirty Bastards Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version (spring 1995).
By the time Raekwons debut was ready, fans were knocking each other over on album release day. And so, on August 1, 1995 as the legend goes, the first 10,000 cassette buyers ran home and opened their plastic cases to discover that the tape itself was an unexpected, stunning shade of lavender.
The rest, as they say, is history… and limited-edition history at that. After the initial purple versions, RCA Records switched to the usual clear plastic to house the legendary tape. The Purple Tape became an instant collectors item, a Holy Grail for Wu-Tang disciples, coveted by those who could claim to be the earliest devotees of Raekwons lyrical genius. The album is still called The Purple Tape to this day, by Raekwon and other Wu-Tang members.
Colors aside, though, lets not forget the album itself. Backed by arguably RZAs most wide-ranging, hard-hitting and at-times lush beats on any Wu-Tang family album before or since, Raekwon and co-MC Ghost Face Killer run the lyrical gamut, introducing Wu-Gambinos slang, dishing out Ice Cream, and melting Glaciers of Ice along the way to influencing just about every MC who followed in their wake.
Beyond Ghost Face (who shines on 12 out of the albums 17 tracks), guest appearances from Nas, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Master Killa, RZA and the debut of Cappadonna (aka Cappachino) locked the album as an undisputed classic. Its a record that hit hard in 1995 and continues to resonate with new fans to this day.
As Raekwon explained in the original Purple Tape Cassette Box liner notes book (and in Brian Colemans Check the Technique Volume 2): A lot of rappers wasnt being creative [at that time] and we came with a potion that just shocked the game. We introduced shoes, we brought about different names and aliases. That record inspired maybe 95% of the games lyrics [afterwards], and integrity on just making music, period. People from our era know how real it is. Its timeless.
20 years later, celebrate the majesty of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx with Get On Downs Purple Tape Watch Box, a release you are sure to proudly display in your collection for decades to come.

Great conclusion to this series!
Format: Paperback
Margot is sure that long-term relationships just aren't for her. Been there. Blew through the tissue box. Wrote the novel. Done that. All her friends found their life mate, and that makes social gatherings a bit awkward now, but it's fine, really. Even the wedding planning she's invited along to with her friends, that's cool. Well, it was, until Olivia, her long lost childhood friend, happens to be a wedding planner they run into. Margot and Olivia's first relationship didn't go so well, and Olivia has since been married and divorced. Margot thinks Olivia is still as much a beautiful goddess as ever, and opportunity knocks when Olivia is stranded with nowhere to go. Margot is happy to offer up a spare room, but even though she and Olivia are getting along swimmingly, and sparks are flying between them, is Olivia what she really wants? When their first voyage into the unknown was capsized, are they fated to be lost at sea once more, or will the stars guide them to a brighter future than they could ever have hoped for?
I've followed the stars all the way to the end of the Written in the Stars trilogy, and what have I found? A trio of excellent stories about love, friendship, hardship, communication, and the self. Margot and Olivia make a fun and interesting second chance pairing, with Margot being the prickly pear, and Olivia being really sweet. Margot is rough around the edges partially because she has a difficult time trusting, which I understand, and that along with other factors compounds into miscommunication along the way. While this story can be read as a standalone, I think that readers who've partaken of the first two entries will have plenty to enjoy, with Brendon, Elle, and other favorites returning for their part in Margot and Olivia's story.
Margot and Olivia have the opportunity for a second chance, but giving somebody you used to love a second chance is difficult, no? Margot asks a lot of Olivia, and I understand why, but in the end, love is all about taking that uncertain leap in hopes of landing together on your feet. Their intimate scenes are rather spicy, so don't expect anything closed door about their romance. Count Your Lucky Stars is the story of two girls who fell out of love doing their best to find each other again, and I'm counting my own lucky stars for having the pleasure of enjoying this story and these characters across an entire trilogy. Recommended for readers who believe in second chances, enjoy romance between disparate personalities, enjoy sapphic romance, and fans of this friend group's previous two stories, which I also recommend.

Queer Holiday Romance
Format: Paperback
Thank you, Netgalley and Pengiun Books for an arc of I'll Get Back To You by Becca Grischow. This book is a cozy and heartfelt queer holiday romance that captures the messy beauty of growing up and falling in love. Set around Thanksgiving, the story follows Murphy, a struggling college student, and Ellie, her unexpectedly queer former classmate, as they fake a relationship for a weekend that turns into something more. With authentic characters and a Midwest setting, the novel blends humor, vulnerability, and sapphic charm, making it a refreshing and relatable read for anyone who loves queer stories with emotional depth and seasonal warmth

A FUN BOOK TO READ
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was full of fun dialog and jokes. It made me laugh, just rolling with laughter. It was interesting to learn about that area of the country, especially the Cubs aspect. A pleasant surprise was that one of the MCs was a Jew. I liked feeling the connection because there aren't that many in the books I've read. The Thanksgiving dressing made with challah was a nice touch.
I tried finding more books by this author but didn't have any success. I wonder if this is her first. I will read more if I find them.
