A "square shouldered dreadnought"-style acoustic guitar, the Gibson Dove was originally the company's follow up to the Hummingbird, both being modeled after Martin's D-style dreadnought acoustics. This acoustic has had a few iterations of color since its inception in 1962, but this gorgeous Vintage Cherry Sunburst variant reminds us that one thing about this guitar hasn't changed at all: its status as an iconic acoustic guitar that sounds as beautiful as it looks.
Today, the Dove Original harks back to its roots, featuring a flame maple back and sides, Sitka spruce top, and a slightly longer 25.5-inch scale length. The body's square-shoulder design contributes to a comfortable, balanced playing experience for users, as well as its warmth and resonant projection. Multi-ply binding decorates the top and back of the body, and the back of the guitar offers two bookmatched, flame maple halves with their woodgrain creating a visual work of art, separated by a decorative back purfling. On the front of the body, a beautiful, custom-made pickguard acts as the visual focal point, with a distinctive dove to drive the point home.
The neck of this Dove Original is carved from mahogany to a comfortable rounded profile. On the neck, a 12" radius rosewood fingerboard is divided by 20 Standard frets, with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays set between them- a direct nod to the original design of this guitar.
Loaded with LR Baggs's VTC acoustic pickup system, the Dove Original delivers high fidelity amplified acoustics. The low-profile under-saddle transducer keeps the aesthetic of the guitar looking neat, while its onboard preamplifier adds a deeper layer to the projection of a player's sensitivity and dynamics. The unobtrusive, removable volume control, specifically mounted within the soundhole, offers on-the-fly adjustments to tone with ease.
Like its original predecessor, this Gibson Dove boasts a sleek nitrocellulose lacquer finish, which does little to get in the way of Vintage Cherry Sunburst that lies under it. This unique, beautiful finish, combined with the modern electronics, are two major factors that set this guitar's design apart from the original. This guitar comes with an included Gibson hardshell case.
