Background:

The EA-6 Prowler electronic warfare aircraft is a twin engine, medium single wing carrier based aircraft designed specifically for electronic warfare missions. Its body follows the basic design of the A-6 Intruder attack aircraft.

The machine has significantly improved its original design, being much more advanced than its predecessor, with an extended body and increased space for placing electronic devices. The number of crew members on board has increased from two to four, with only one pilot in the front seat and the other being an electronic warfare officer along with the two in the rear of the cabin.

The EA-6B has two engines, with the wings located in the middle of the fuselage. This aircraft is designed and equipped specifically for electronic warfare, capable of conducting advanced electronic jamming activities from a distance and 24/7.

The aircraft flew on May 25, 1968, entered service in 1971, and was replaced by the EF-18G "Growler" in 2009.
