With this mentality, Gibson's Les Paul Studio sought to lay the groundwork for quality Les Paul guitars at accessible levels. This specific Les Paul Studio version carries with it that very same mental framework. Starting with a single-cutaway mahogany body paired with a maple top, this guitar embodies a familiar feel to Les Paul fans. This cut of mahogany, outfitted with an Ultra Modern weight-relief treatment, enhances this guitar's comfort by making it lighter and easily carried across the stage or while playing casually. The body is met with a mahogany neck bearing a traditional heel shape and a SlimTaper profile. In hand, this neck plays effortlessly alongside a bound rosewood fingerboard adorned with acrylic trapezoid inlays. Across the entire body, this Les Paul idealizes comfort and playability.

Audibly, this model comes to life with two Gibson Burstbucker Pro humbucking pickups. Embodying all the great humbucker sound associated with the Les Paul, this pair of pickups bark and sing with an impressive, warm, amplified voice. Equipped into this Les Paul are two push/pull volume control knobs that route into a coil-tapping functionality for opening the sonic spectrum of this Les Paul Studio even wider. Utilize these push/pull controls and hear the versatility of the Burstbucker Pros play out in real time. A set of Vintage Deluxe tuners adorn the classic Les Paul headstock while an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge with a Stop Bar tailpiece lands at the scale's opposite end. Fully equipped for steady intonation, this Les Paul is built to last with outstanding stability.

The Babylonian Empire

This book analyses the achievements and challenges of the Babylonian Empire. It was a significant socio-political entity in Ancient Times. Like Assyria, the Babylonian state retained the written Akkadian language (the language of its native populace) for official use, despite its Northwest Semitic-speaking Amorite founders and Kassite successors, who spoke a language isolate, not being native Mesopotamians. It retained the Sumerian language for religious use (as did Assyria). Still, already by the time, Babylon was founded, this was no longer a spoken language, having been wholly subsumed by Akkadian. The earlier Akkadian and Sumerian traditions played a significant role in Babylonian and Assyrian culture. The region would remain an important cultural center, even under its protracted periods of outside rule. Ganesh of Mari founded the Kassite dynasty. Both Dynasties were significant. Moreover, The Kassites, like the Amorite rulers who had preceded them, were not originally native to Mesopotamia. They had first appeared in the Zagros Mountains of northwestern Iran today. Overall the book is well-written.

This book is great for AP students or homeschoolers who will benefit from a solid foundation in the history of Babylon (and Sumer and Assyria) in a fun format they will enjoy reading.

A difficult book that must be read
This is a Pulitzer Prize winning novel by William Styron (the author of Sophie’s Choice). It is based on a slave revolt in Virginia in 1831, lead by Nate Turner. Turner’s capture and confession is the basis of this book. The novel is told in a 1st person narrative and is largely the work of Styron’s imagination. While it is brilliantly written Styron does include graphic scenes of highly erotic obsessions with various white women and one of the most vivid homosexual encounters in modern literature. Probably because of these scenes Styron was savaged by many of the leading black artists of the day but the book has endured the criticism and is, in many ways, an American Classic. Slavery is an indelible stain on the fabric of American culture. It will never be washed away. Turner is an aesthetic, a religious fanatic, a brilliant, tormented misanthropic, homicidal nihilist. His band of followers slaughters 52 men, women, and children. In retribution the white slaughter 200 blacks. Turner is captured, interrogated, and executed. Instead of inspiring a region wide uprising, he is brought down by his fellow blacks fighting alongside the plantation owners. It is a difficult book to read but it is a book that really should be read.
