Where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton beneath reveals the Burnt Sienna pattern a deep, moody all over ground of burnt sienna, terracotta and dark burgundy plum, with large shadowy floral forms dissolving into the warm dark ground. Dense, painterly and smouldering like embers seen through smoke, or a garden at dusk in the last of the light.

The Damson linen-cotton backing deepens the plum and burgundy tones of the front, wrapping the piece in a rich, unified darkness. A 1cm flat flange frames the cover, finished with quiet precision.
