Flight-oriented individual with complete natural surface

This Ait Saoun individual retains the complete fusion crust formed during atmospheric entry, with pronounced flight orientation and well-defined regmaglypts across the surface. The specimen's aerodynamic shaping records the stable orientation it held as it decelerated through the atmosphere in 2024. At 7.88g, this complete stone preserves the natural surface geometry created during the witnessed fall in Morocco.

The fusion crust shows the characteristic dark, glassy coating formed as the meteorite's exterior melted and ablated during entry heating. Regmaglypts, thumbprint-like depressions, mark where differential ablation carved into the surface. The flight orientation indicates this stone maintained a consistent leading-edge position during descent, creating asymmetric surface features that document its trajectory.

Enstatite chondrite composition and texture

EH3 classification places this specimen in the high-iron enstatite chondrite group, characterized by highly reduced mineral assemblages that formed in oxygen-depleted regions of the early solar system. The "3" designation indicates minimal thermal metamorphism, preserving primitive features including distinct chondrules and original mineral chemistry. Enstatite chondrites contain iron-bearing sulfides and metal alloys rarely found in ordinary chondrites.

The complete crust conceals internal structure, but EH3 meteorites typically display well-defined chondrules set in a fine-grained matrix rich in enstatite pyroxene. These meteorites formed under conditions so reducing that even elements normally found as oxides occur as sulfides or in metallic form. The preservation of unaltered chondrules in type 3 specimens provides insight into earliest solar system processes.

Scientific context

Enstatite chondrites represent some of the most chemically reduced materials in the solar system, forming in environments where oxygen was nearly absent. Their unusual chemistry, including silicon dissolved in metallic iron and nitrogen-bearing minerals, suggests formation conditions distinct from other chondrite groups. Some researchers propose enstatite chondrites as potential building blocks for Earth's core and mantle, based on oxygen isotope similarities.

The witnessed fall status confirms this specimen's extraterrestrial origin and establishes its terrestrial arrival date, eliminating ambiguity about weathering history. Fresh falls provide optimal material for laboratory analysis because they lack the oxidation and alteration that affect finds exposed to Earth's environment. Frequently asked questions

Is this meteorite authenticated? This specimen is classified as EH3 (Enstatite, high iron) in the Meteoritical Bulletin. Verification: Ait Saoun. Certificate of authenticity included with purchase.

What does "flight-oriented" mean? Flight orientation refers to the stable position a meteorite maintains during atmospheric descent, creating asymmetric surface features. The leading edge experiences more ablation than the trailing surfaces, producing directional regmaglypts and differential crust thickness visible on this specimen.

What is included with this specimen? The 7.88g complete individual with original fusion crust and certificate of authenticity. No display stand included.

Why are enstatite chondrites scientifically significant? EH chondrites formed under the most oxygen-depleted conditions known in meteorite parent bodies. Their extreme reduction produced mineral assemblages that help constrain early solar system chemistry and may provide clues to Earth's composition, particularly the core-mantle boundary region.

What are regmaglypts? Regmaglypts are the thumbprint-like depressions sculpted into fusion crust by turbulent airflow during atmospheric entry. Differential heating and ablation create these concave features, which are prominent on this specimen's surface.

Collector significance

Complete individuals with intact fusion crust represent the most naturally preserved form of meteorites available to collectors. This specimen's witnessed fall status and fresh surface condition make it substantially more desirable than finds of unknown terrestrial residence time. The flight orientation and prominent regmaglypt development provide clear evidence of atmospheric passage, features that become educational focal points in any collection.

At 7.88g, this individual offers substantial size while remaining accessible compared to larger witnessed fall specimens. Enstatite chondrites constitute approximately 2% of observed falls, making them considerably less common than ordinary chondrites in the market. The 2024 fall date ensures minimal oxidation and optimal preservation of original surface features. Collectors seeking documented provenance and complete natural morphology will find this specimen meets both criteria. Browse additional specimens in our Chondrites collection.

Great option for a natural finished look

I have been using Colorscience Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 Original color for over 5 years. I love that the color blends with your skin so well and provides a natural looking finish. It does not cover all of my dark spots or defects, but it makes my natural skin look better. The finish is soft and silky and the 50 helps protect my skin from additional sun damage. If you are looking for a more natural finish, this is a great choice.

Made my blush look orangey
Size: 1.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Color: Original
I absolutely loved the feel and finish of this tinted sunscreen, but with or without my foundation on top of it, my Benefit Dandelion blush went from pink to a shade of orange. I have fair skin, blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair, which at this time of year is more strawberry than blonde. The orangey shade is definitely not my color. I was sad that this didn't work out, because the Colorscience made my skin look radiant really, until an hour or so after blush was applied. I so wanted a replacement for the Australian Gold Mineral sunscreen in original tint, because even though that tint looks great color-wise, it also makes my skin look dry and therefore accentuates my wrinkles, even when I mix it with Olay microsculpting cream moisturizer before I apply it. The Colorscience didn't accentuate the wrinkles. I feel certain this color issue is either a conflict with my Olay moisturizer, my own chemistry or the Benefit blush; maybe a combination of the three. If you have oily skin this sunscreen is moisturizing so it might not work for you. Otherwise, you may want to give this a try. Hate that I had to return it. No matter what, I've had a run-in with skin cancer, so I won't go without spf. I just have to keep looking ancient and dry with AG until I find one that works better for my coloring, skin type, and that plays well with my moisturizer and blush. I'm 62 yrs young, normal to dry combo skin. Hope this helps!

Brown skin friendly! No white cast! 🥳 Bye dark spots!
Size: 2.6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Size: 2.6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Brown skin friendly! No white cast! 🥳 Colorescience comes through again! This is a fantastic sunscreen. It’s SPF 50 and it protects against blue light. So if you’re trying to get rid of hyperpigmentation, this will help you on your journey. I usually use tinted sunscreen for that reason but luckily, we have a non-tinted option with this! I use this primarily on my body because it doesn’t get stain clothing. But sometimes I use it on my face too, on its own or under a tinted formula. I like the light coverage for my face to even out my skin tone. The texture is light and thin; reminds me of Tatcha silk screen but without the slight tint. This goes on white but somehow disappears into my skin. Also the price point is a better value, here. Even better when it’s on sale! I love Tatcha and use it regularly but I am happy to have this in my stash now. I had to get the big bottle when it was on sale. The formula is very elegant and leaves a natural finish. It spread and blends like a dream! It is so quick! You will NOT have to rub this in for 30 minutes to get it to blend. This physical sunscreen is a daily essential for me. It doesn’t burn my eyes or irritate my oily skin. It’s water resistant for 40 min, so it’s good for the summer heat. But where are all the photos? Cause sometimes we need proof, right? Well, here is my contribution. I’m wearing this on my body (neck, chest, arms, legs, hands and feet). * I reached out to Colorescience to ask about the effectiveness against UVA (aging) rays for this product. Other countries will usually mark this on a PA scale, the strongest protection being PA++++. But in the US, sunscreen isn’t required to specify how much; they are required to make sure it has at least the FDA “minimum” protection against UVA, and UVB (burning) rays and they have to label it “Broad Spectrum.” SPF is the protection level against UVB only. Colorescience has started to label some of their products with PA++++. Since this wasn’t labeled like that, I asked. They told me they recently completed testing and No-Show has earned the PA++++ rating. So they are in the process of updating the packaging. Colorescience knows what we want, even though the FDA is asleep at the wheel.
