In the sequel, 'Police Story 2' (1988), Chan has been demoted to traffic duties following his heavy-handed manner. However, when Chu Tao is released from prison early and is intent on causing chaos around Hong Kong, Chan is brought back into the force to try and stop his old nemesis.
