1950s LIESEL SPORNHAUER ‘HAIGER’ FISH-MOUTH VASE 101/21 FOR SCHLOSSBERGThis handsome, SCHLOSSBERG KERAMIK fish mouth vase sports Liesel Spornhauer's 'Haiger' dcorone of her last designs for Schlossberg before she left in 1959. 'Haiger' went into production in 1960, and joins her other '50s era black and white designs including 'Roulette' and 'Lotus.' Haiger is a small country town 3 km away from the village of Langenaubach, to which SCHLOSSBERG relocated in 1954. SCHLOSSBERG KERAMIK was established as a workshop in 1946

This handsome, SCHLOSSBERG KERAMIK fish-mouth vase sports Liesel Spornhauer's 'Haiger' décor—one of her last designs for Schlossberg before she left in 1959.  'Haiger' went into production in 1960, and joins her other '50s-era black and white designs including 'Roulette' and 'Lotus.'  Haiger is a small country town 3 km away from the village of Langenaubach, to which SCHLOSSBERG relocated in 1954.

SCHLOSSBERG KERAMIK was established as a workshop in 1946 by Ilse and Theodore Stefan in the village of Volmarstein, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.  Its name was derived from its situation at the foot of the schloßberg (the castle-hill) of the ruined castle Volmarstein (destroyed by fire in 1754).  Initially the Stefans produced hand-turned, hand-painted faience exclusively.  Their output received positive receptions at trade fairs in Frankfurt and Hanover.  Company growth and the factory's gradual conversion for the manufacture of serial products twice necessitated expansion of the buildings.  When it finally become impossible to scale up further in Volmarstein, SCHLOSSBERG moved south to a newly built building in the village of Langenaubach in Hesse in 1954.

That same year Liesel Spornhauer, previously of Dümler & Breiden, became the firm's first in-house designer.  She remained with the company through the decade and was responsible for most of the successful designs from the period.  Although SCHLOSSBERG would always remain a relatively minor player in the field of German art pottery, it produced a disproportionate number of entirely first-rate designs, particularly under Spornhauer's tenure.  When she left in 1959, co-founder Ilse Stephan assumed the position of head designer.  In the mid-sixties, like most other makers of the time, SCHLOSSBERG emphasized the production of the popular "fat lava" décors.  Ilse would step aside for the famous Hanns Welling to take the helm during his brief stint with the firm.  Renowned for the game-changing designs he introduced at Ruscha and Ceramano, Welling would leave his mark on the work being produced by SCHLOSSBERG.  Unfortunately, the business was not able to sustain the successes of the 1950s and '60s, and it closed its doors in 1975.

White clay was used exclusively in the manufacture of SCHLOSSBERG's products.  Some pieces were inscribed with the intertwined letters, "T" and "S," probably representing co-founder Theodore Stephan's initials.  Many items had only form and size numbers engraved or molded on the base, separated by a slash mark or stacked one atop the other.  Usually a distinctive typeface was employed, which can be an aid in identifying the company's pottery.  Some pieces are completely unmarked.

Obsessed. Soothing, effective, fragrance-free, incredibly healing
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I’ve been loving this so much I bought a second bottle after a few days of using it. It has all the skin soothing benefits of the tolerance lotion cleanser, but it’s also a really great cleanser. It’s almost not noticeable how good it is at cleansing because your skin doesn’t feel stripped after, but it takes things off really quickly. I was worried because it doesn’t foam a lot and it feels so nurturing — much like the tolerance lotion cleanser (which I use as a second cleanse when my skin needs a few days to recover from something like a derm office treatment) — but when I wash again with my favorite HG cleanser nothing extra comes off, and I tested it twice on waterproof eyeliner that I’d swiped on my forearm for an hour or so, the eyeliner dissolved and wiped off with two or three gentle swipes. It has a very emollient texture, so when you rub it against your skin it slips so easily you don’t realize it’s dissolving and taking things away because there is no friction. So it’s great at taking off makeup, it’s AMAZING at cleaning makeup brushes, and IT DOES NOT BURN MY EYES AT ALL. Also, it is FRAGRANCE-FREE… before I bought it I read a review complaining about smelling a citrus fragrance, that person either has some sort of brain tumor or something spilled on their bottle when it was in a warehouse because this is definitely a fragrance-free product. Prior to trying this, I had tried another cleanser that gave me weird acne hives all over my chest (never happened to me before) and I was struggling to heal the acne and the irritation. I noticed an immediate difference when I started using the tolerance cleanser on it; the fresh redness went away, the acne started healing, and the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation has been healing fast. So I’ve been using this on my body as well and it’s soothing and moisturizing in all the places where other things have been drying. I have mild rosacea and I hadn’t realized how irritated my skin was from the last thing I’d tried until after 5 days or so of using this my skin tone looked much more even and the stubborn PIH I have from a two-zit hormonal breakout a month ago finally looked dramatically lighter (as recently as the week before, I’d needed to cover them with high-coverage concealer). Because this doesn’t foam much, some people might not realize how well it’s cleaning… I encourage you to judge it based on how your skin looks and feels. Since it is very emollient though, I do think it’s important to use it with a face wash scrubber or washcloth just to ensure you’re getting some mild mechanical exfoliation and clearing away skin cells that could be trapping stuff in your pores. For this reason, I do wash my face with this twice so the first wash can get off makeup/debris/oil and then the second wash can really penetrate and clean my skin.

No Scent and Gentle
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I broke out in a case of Perioral Dermatitis recently and bought this product to help before I could see my doctor. Avene Tolerance facial cleanser has no scent and is very gentle on my skin. It didn’t burn when washing with this product, and even helped to slough off the dead skin around my lips. My face feels clean, not dry. I am still going to see my doc to get an RX for the inflammation, but I do believe this product helped to alleviate the dryness and tightness of my skin and lips. I’ve used other Avene products and I’m very happy with them. Even though these products are more expensive, to me they are well worth the money because they are much more gentle on the skin than any other products I’ve used. I will buy this product again just because of the fact that it’s so gentle. PS: at the time of purchase for this product, I also bought Avene’s Tolerance Control Skin Recovery Cream (you don’t need to use a lot of this one on your entire face), and Avene’s Cicalfate for lips. Between these 3 products, my lips and skin feel a lot better (however, I will still see my doctor because I have Crohn’s Disease and Perioral Dermatitis is considered an extra-intestinal side effect of Crohn’s).

Gentle everyday cleanser!
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
My go to nightly cleanser! Gentle yet effective. Removes makeup without leaving any residue behind. Also does not dry out my skin or cause breakouts! I would say it’s more of a cream cleanser though. It does not really foam up. It’s a decent size bottle for the price. The pump dispenser is an added plus!

So gentle and moisturizing. Great for super sensitive skin.
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
This is so gentle and moisturizing. Does not irritate my skin in any way. My skin is super sensitive and I have atopic dermatitis, it has been the best cleanser I’ve used to date. I was using another one from this brand and it was fine but this is the one I will continually stick with from now on. Just hope they don’t change the formula.
