The PRS Silver Sky represents many things, chiefly, a focused effort to craft the ideal electric guitar with all the essential aspects of a vintage treasure and all the cutting edge features of a modern masterpiece. This guitar is the product of a collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and musician John Mayer. Between Mayer's musical chops and PRS's mastery of design, the Silver Sky comes together as a love letter to the modern player.
The Silver Sky starts out with a double-cutaway alder body, carefully sculpted and contoured for absolute comfort in playability. Uniquely fashioned, the body is matched with the iconic PRS headstock, only inverted to ensure consistent tuning and string length. The headstock is outfitted with vintage-style, closed-back tuners with the PRS locking design. To build on this whole formula for solid intonation, the Silver Sky's steel tremolo bridge features Gen III knife-edge screws that are set up flush to the body, allowing the tremolo to only go downwards in pitch. This process keeps the Silver Sky acoustically louder and enhances signal clarity and reduces hum in relation to the pickups' output.
The three custom-designed PRS 635JM single-coil pickups the Silver Sky is loaded with differ from traditional single-coils. They are specifically designed for rounder, fuller tones that are Mayer-tested and approved. The clarity and fullness produced by these single-coils are enhanced with the Silver Sky's neck in hand. While playing, the maple neck and rosewood fingerboard fit smoothly in hand for extended playing sessions. The classic PRS Small Birds fret inlays top off this instrument with effortless charm and style.
