The thermally modified Red Oak slats are contoured for both seat and back, providing ergonomic support for long afternoons on the porch or patio. Thermal modification is a chemical-free heat treatment that permanently changes the wood's cellular structure — no preservatives, no coatings, just heat. It makes the slats significantly more resistant to the elements while preserving the natural look and feel of real wood.

ThermaFusion is our hybrid outdoor furniture line, handcrafted in Edmore, Michigan. The Northern White Cedar log frame uses mortise and tenon joinery — the same time-tested construction in use since 1923. The thermally modified Red Oak slats undergo a chemical-free heat treatment that makes them significantly more resistant to moisture, warping, and decay than untreated wood. Neither material requires annual finishing or maintenance.

Care & Finishing
The thermally modified slats require no finish at all. The cedar log frame can be left untreated to weather to a silver-grey, or given a penetrating oil every few years to maintain its original warm tone. No annual maintenance on either material.
About Log Checking
The cedar log frame may develop small surface cracks (checks) as the wood acclimates. This is normal for solid cedar and does not affect structural integrity — it's a natural characteristic of the wood, not a defect. The thermally modified slats will not develop this type of checking.
