They are bookmatched, such that the pieces of wood are mirror images of each other. One scale is 3/8" thick, the other is slightly thinner at about 5/16" thick. This one has some extra character -- borer holes that go through-and-through, as well as a few checks. If I were working with these scales, I'd match a nice dark black epoxy with this wood to fill in and highlight the character marks. The wood has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. These are not stabilized. The wood has lost density through the spalting process but should be sufficiently strong to work without stabilizing. |

Too many screenshot, not detail explain enough, like a lab manual than a book

Not recommended this book.
This book is approximately 270 pages long, but around 200 pages are comprised of screenshots, including IDA Pro screenshots, Virustotal result screens, lists of function names, and lists of DLL file names.
This book primarily shows you how to use the tools, which are illustrated mainly through screenshots of the tools' screens and results.
This is a well-structured lab manual that guides you through all the necessary screens and steps to locate the flag.
However, there are too many screenshots, and the concept is not explained in detail.
It is expected that you will have a basic understanding to follow the lab manual.
And this is not colour printing, and the photo was resized, making it a bit hard to read the screenshot details.
If you are at the GREM level, you may already be familiar with using the tools.
Unless you want a quick refresher on your lab skills.

MAoS - Malware Analysis on Steroids: Fighting Malware to the Death - Real-World Threats and Reverse Engineering Tactics by Uriel Kosayev is an outstanding and highly informative book. This is the second book I’ve read from him, after Antivirus Bypass Techniques, and once again I found the content to be extremely practical, well-structured, and insightful. Uriel has a way of explaining complex malware analysis and reverse engineering concepts in a way that is both approachable and deeply technical. The real-world tactics and examples make it not just a book you read once, but a reference you’ll return to often. Without a doubt, another excellent resource—I’m giving it 5 stars.
