Tasting Notes

Appearance

Scotchmans Hill 'Hill' Chardonnay 2025 displays a pale straw colour with brilliant clarity and a hint of green at the rim, reflecting its youthful vibrancy and cool-climate origins. The wine's attractive appearance speaks to the purity of fruit and the un-oaked winemaking style that allows the natural character to shine through.

Aroma

The nose opens with enticing aromas of white peach, honeydew melon, and tropical pineapple that create an inviting aromatic profile. Subtle notes of citrus blossom and crisp green apple add complexity and lift. The un-oaked style allows the fruit to shine through with remarkable purity, showcasing the fresh and lively character that defines this fruit-driven Chardonnay.

Palate

On the palate, this wine is full, fresh, and lively, delivering generous flavours of stone fruits, melon, and tropical fruits that dominate the front palate. Bright acidity provides excellent structure and balance, whilst the fruit intensity carries through to a clean, refreshing finish. Cool tank fermentation using both cultured and indigenous yeasts preserves the wine's vibrant character, with no malolactic fermentation ensuring crisp freshness. Maturation on gross lees for three months adds subtle textural complexity whilst maintaining the wine's lively, approachable nature and medium body.

Pairs With

This vibrant un-oaked Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled prawns, fresh oysters, chicken Caesar salad, pan-fried flathead, creamy pasta dishes, soft cheeses such as brie or camembert, and Asian-inspired seafood.

UGH SO GOOD!!!
Format: Paperback
Such a good book! The way the story is written and how the characters are portrayed leaves you wanting more! A tad bit of a slow burn but so so good and worth the wait! Personally I bought both the book and audio book because I couldn't put it down! This book had me (A man) kicking my feet like a little girl and holding back tears throughout the story. I just love love and this story is just so beautifully written!

Slow burn with a sprinkle of fantasy.
Format: Kindle
It was alright. Written well. Story was decent. But it just lacked something. It's the slowest burn I've ever read, which is fine. I felt like the knight (main character) was kind of weak and whiney… And I expected the strength of a knight! The first chapter is filled with a lot of background information, but then it's like the story doesn't really reference it again. I would have liked a bit more information that first chapter before just heading right into the story in chapter 2. Things could have been explained more in general. There could have been a lot more detail and explanation abiut the fantasy side of the book. It was just like a straight romance with a sprinkle of fantasy. Overall, it was decent, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone unless they asked specifically for a slow burn with a little bit of fantasy. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A Forbidden Romance With Teeth
Format: Paperback
First off: I loved the couple. Della, our acting princess, and her sharp wit and determination to survive were a refreshing change from the damsel type princess. Galeon was a woman of honour and yet so head over heels with the fake princess that she can't keep away. Birch does a great job of building a magical world and drawing you into it so that you kept turning pages until the end. And that page-turning was also spurred by the slow burn will-they-won't-they romance between the heroines who had much to lose if they crossed the line. I've purchased all three novels and will review Her Blushing Hero just as soon as I've finished.
