About this piece:
The artwork is inspired by an artist identity struggle that many creatives in the 21st century experience daily, asking the question, "What makes my art unique?"
About the Artist:
When I was 6 years old, my preschool teacher encouraged my mom to take me to an art school in my free time. So, to try and stop me from drawing on every blank wall in the house, she did. I then went to the Nellie Brisley Art School in Bloemfontein for 12 years straight and became ‘addicted’ to creating art.
In 2015 I moved to Cape Town and attended oil painting lessons hosted by Tracy Payne for three years. Then my next chapter was to take on printmaking lessons at Judy Woodborn’s Intaglio studio. And in 2020 I decided to pursue becoming a professional artist.
Some of my most recent accomplishments as an artist include being one of the top 40 selected artists of the South African Portrait award, and of course, being in the top 25 for the ARTi Gallery National Art Competition.
Along my journey as an artist, I have experienced a variety of techniques, ranging from oil painting portraits to copper plate etchings. This has inspired me to find a way to combine the knowledge I have gathered and start developing my own personal style as an artist.
