The matriarch of Maton Guitars and the wife of founder Bill May, Vera May, turned 100 in 2019. To celebrate the dear family matriarch, Maton released one of the most beautiful guitars they've ever produced. Not only was it a superb instrument, but also destined to become a very special part of Maton’s legacy.

This gently used Maton 808 was originally purchased through Artisan Guitars and is back with us on consignment. It just completed a fresh PLEK fret dressing, strings, and setup.

The after-market armrest is removable, should you desire. We suggest you try it first, as it protects the top from resting your arm on the soundboard, enhancing responsiveness and sustain.

The soundboard of the Vera May is made from Lutz Spruce, a naturally occurring hybrid of Sitka Spruce and White Spruce (a close relative of Engelmann Spruce). As often occurs with natural hybrids, Lutz has a certain amount of “hybrid vigor”, combining the best elements of both trees. The result is a soundboard with the stiffness of Sitka but with a little less density, resulting in a greater balance of subtle overtones which is a delightful combination in a smaller bodied guitar like the Vera May.

The Victorian Blackwood back, sides and neck are finished in Maton's special tuned satin finish, providing all the warmth and mid-range that the Maton 808 series is famous for.

The fingerboard and bridge are made from streaky ebony, a material Maton has come to love for its strength, stability and tone as well as its earthy beauty. The fingerboard features snowflake inlays and a 12th fret Vera May signature block inlay .

The Vera May also comes with an AP5 Pro pickup system and case. This special edition came with a Limited Edition Ivory Hiscox Travel Case, and label hand signed by Vera May, celebrating her 100th Birthday!
