Textile Origin Story:
The Penelope textile is used here on the sleeves. It is a combination of several distinct layers from different art pieces finished with a final layer of transparent lapis ombré. The primary image is a graphite drawing called "Spinal Cracker." The melding of the transparent layers gives a great depth to this textile that is hard to achieve in traditional textile printing. "Spinal Cracker" is one of the pieces that I made for the Draw Me show. The intermingling of skulls, vertebrae, snakes, and insects has been present in my art for decades placing my work squarely at the intersection of surrealism and nature. The three pieces from the series were created to conjure a nostalgia for historic etchings and the odd fantastical result of a type of interbreeding of species.
