The fabric is gorgeous pure fil of linen, the highest linen quality ever woven, fluid with a soft texture!
This linen fil bed sheet has a medium weight witha fantastic floppy hand and a pale pink tone.
This bed sheet has a gorgeous hand crafted white GC monogram embroidered with a fine decor that frame the monogram: white high relief dots.
The top hem of this vintage textile is trimmed with nice little white festons and dots of different sizes.
The bed sheet is in a fine condition !
Gorgeous fabric and tone! Ideal to use as a sheet of course but also for sofa jeté, window treatment, clothing…
The measurements are fine, like trousseau bed sheets used to be with a large width.

FIL OF LINEN BED SHEETS
|
Fil de lin is the term we use in France to describe the finest quality fibers of the softer part of the flax. Those fil de lin bed sheets are the purest fluid fabric, supple, medium to heavy weight with a stunning floppy hand and a silky touch. They are typical antique linen trousseau dowry with a wonderful tactile texture. These bed sheets are usually wide, embroidered with beautifully crafted monogram and openworks that run the whole width and on the discovery, for the turn down of the sheet. Some of those exceptionnal sheets were meant to be exposed, we call them ceremonial sheets. The sheet overflows from the bed with a multitude of ornaments, laces and embroideries. A pure delight to sleep in those sheets, thanks to their dramatic falling, they can decorate any window or sofa beautifully as well.

Textile Care
Antique linen is a living material, if you treasure it, it will reward you a hundred times. A lot of antique textiles are so robust and wonderfully easy to wash and maintain. The fibres of these exceptional fabrics were grown without any use of chemical, these textiles are organic. No need to use chemicals to wash antique textiles, a good simple natural soap such as the savon de Marseille is fine for every kind of linen. The textiles can be machine washed on warm. The warmer ithey will be washed, the softer and floppier they will turn. Again, no need to use a softener, a dash of white vinegar or a spoon of baking soda are perfect to maintain these wonderful textiles. Dry them on the line if possible, expose them under sun light to brighten the natural white.

The textiles I propose show signs of times, marks that are a moving, precious treasure which attests a bygone era. I will always try to describe them as accuratly as possible, giving many details, measurements and pictures to show the reality of the linen. Estimating the age of a fabric is not scientific but rather archeologic, many signs are useful, such as the stitches, the embroideries, the sewing, the colour, the texture, even the smell of the fabrics can help. Sometimes, the auctionneers or the owners give me precious information about the origin of the trousseau, monograms, name of the ancestors. Experience is also crucial to feel and judge the fiber content, the age, the origin or the use of the textile. I will strive to describe the textiles in the most complete way, using my honest judgement, having spent many years manipulating them.
Please note my textiles come from a smoke free house. When they are freshly laundered, the textiles have been washed with natural organic soap and sun dried on line
