Description
The CAC Wirraway was a key Australian military aircraft during the Second World War, developed from the North American NA-16/“Texan” design and produced locally by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation. Initially introduced as an advanced trainer, the Wirraway went on to serve in a wide range of operational roles including reconnaissance, artillery spotting, ground attack, and target marking across the Pacific theatre.

Although originally intended for training duties, the Wirraway was pressed into combat service during the early stages of the Pacific War, where it operated in challenging conditions across northern Australia and New Guinea.

This 1/48 scale kit from Special Hobby accurately represents this versatile aircraft in both training and operational configurations. The kit includes finely detailed injection-moulded parts, a clear sprue, and a decal sheet offering two historically inspired marking options.

One scheme depicts a yellow training aircraft used in Australia, while the second represents a green operational machine with white tail surfaces, typical of New Guinea theatre operations.
