Cavansite is a calcium vanadium phyllosilicate—CaV⁴⁺Si₄O₁₀·4H₂O—whose exceptional blue comes from the vanadium(IV) ion in its structure. It forms as small prismatic crystals, often in radiating rosettes or spherical clusters, within the vesicles of basaltic lava.
