COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Advanced Foundation Engineering in Civil Design course. This program has been designed to equip you with the advanced technical knowledge, analytical skills and applied engineering judgment needed to design, analyse and manage foundation systems for a wide range of civil infrastructure projects. You will explore soil mechanics, geotechnical investigation techniques, bearing capacity and settlement analysis, shallow and deep foundation design, construction practices, quality control, specialised foundation systems, monitoring programs and the regulatory framework that governs modern foundation engineering practice.

This course begins by establishing essential soil mechanics knowledge for foundation design. This learning area explores soil composition and types, soil classification, soil properties relevant to foundation behaviour, soil testing and analysis and the key factors influencing the design of foundation systems. It also introduces fundamental design considerations and the distinction between shallow and deep foundations.

The next learning area focuses specifically on shallow and deep foundation systems. This section examines shallow foundations and their design considerations, deep foundations and associated design requirements, and the ways in which different soil and loading conditions guide the choice between foundation types. It also highlights the geotechnical and structural factors that influence safe, durable and economical foundation solutions.

Another learning area explores geotechnical site investigation techniques. This section discusses desk studies and preliminary investigations, subsurface exploration techniques, geophysical methods, sampling and laboratory testing and how to interpret geotechnical reports and site characterisation data to inform design decisions.

A further learning area examines bearing capacity and settlement analysis. This section outlines the factors affecting soil bearing capacity, methods used to determine allowable bearing capacity, the factors influencing settlement, methods for settlement analysis and detailed design considerations for shallow foundations including soil bearing capacity, foundation geometry, depth selection, settlement behaviour, load distribution, soil improvement methods, water table effects and environmental impacts.

The next learning area focuses on the design of shallow foundation systems. This section discusses spread footings and their variations, the design of mat (raft) foundations, the types of mat systems and the engineering considerations that govern safe and efficient foundation performance under different loading and soil conditions.

Another learning area examines pile foundation design. This section covers site investigation and soil analysis for pile-supported structures, load analysis and structural requirements, pile types and selection, pile capacity and load testing, detailed pile design considerations, structural connections and pile caps, construction specifications, quality control measures and monitoring and performance evaluation practices.

A further learning area explores deep foundation elements, including pile caps and rafts. This section explains the design requirements, construction considerations, structural interfaces, seismic considerations, waterproofing and drainage needs, geotechnical performance monitoring, code compliance, regulatory requirements, construction sequencing, coordination and the preparation of documentation and as-built records.

The next learning area focuses on construction methods and techniques. This section covers excavation and site preparation, foundation construction techniques, concrete mixing and placement, reinforcement installation, formwork processes, curing and moisture control, quality control and inspection, backfilling and site grading, waterproofing and drainage systems, final finishing, post-construction testing, monitoring, documentation and specialised construction methods. Safety and environmental considerations, contracting methods, project delivery systems, quality assurance and project coordination are also included.

Another learning area examines foundation testing and monitoring. This section outlines the types of foundation testing, monitoring techniques, continuous monitoring systems, data analysis and interpretation and the engineering benefits and applications of testing programs for performance verification and long-term structural health.

The next learning area focuses on maintenance and remediation and ground improvement techniques. This section covers foundation performance assessment, methods for addressing problematic soils and the application of soil stabilisation and improvement techniques to extend foundation service life.

The final learning area examines foundation design for special structures. This section discusses site investigation and geotechnical analysis, load analysis and structural requirements, the selection of appropriate foundation types, specialised design considerations and the particular foundation engineering requirements for bridges and high-rise buildings. Construction techniques, quality control, monitoring programs and compliance with foundation design codes and standards are also explored.

By the end of this course you will be able to analyse soil conditions, conduct and interpret geotechnical investigations, design shallow and deep foundations, perform bearing capacity and settlement assessments, evaluate construction practices, implement monitoring systems, manage problematic soils, design foundations for specialised structures and ensure compliance with all relevant engineering codes and standards.

Not as Smart or Interactive as You Think it Will Be
Color: Blue
This is an honest review from a schnauzer owner who has has wanted this cheerble ball for their dog for more than one year. I finally bougI finally bought this toy and both me and my dog are disappointed. The settings are...i would say dog friendly as I'd assumed a dog ball would be. What I mean by that is, for example: the calm play setting is muuch too calm. Super light puffs of energy, like a battery is dying. And the playful setting is scary, alarmingly so. The intervals in between are too long. The ball does not bounce. So they just have settings all wrong. The size is good for a large dog only. Do not buy if you have a small to medium dog. I even think the material is okay. I've only had it for a few days so I can't even speak to how the material holds up. Really hoping to love this ball for my dog. It was not the distraction I was hoping it would be so I could work from home while my dog had fun. I'm hoping this can help someone else who's been pining over it. Essentially, it's a $35-$50 well made weighted ball that moves occasionally.

Perfect Size for Tiny Dogs
Style: 14" Length Sport Launcher, Style: 14" Length Sport Launcher
Excellent size for tiny dogs who can only manage the tiny tennis balls. The launcher is easy to use, even for my 8 year old. It’s pretty much revolutionized ball time for the dogs and the kids - they actually like taking him out to play fetch now. It’s super light but still lets you toss the balls a lot farther than just throwing it. Great value for your money and it’s helps strong for weeks of repeated used, super durable.

Great for small dog fetch
Style: 14" Length Sport Launcher
We love this for keeping our hands clean and saving our shoulders while playing fetch. Not sure why this size is so incredibly difficult to find (not in any stores in our area). It fits both the small rubber and tennis ball types. We have a 15lb rat terrier, and he loves it.

Ball is very small
Style: 14" Length Sport Launcher
It says it’s for small dogs up to 15LB. My doggie is 15 LB and this is way small. It’s a tiny ball. If your dog is 12LB to 20LB I would get the next size up to small.
