The Mule is inspired by the American drink Moscow Mule, which has made a recent resurgence from its popularity in the 1940’s and 50’s. The Moscow Mule is traditionally served in a copper mug. Montegrappa had two mixologist brothers create a drink especially for them, the Montegrappa Mule. Edward and Leone Miotti created several varieties of the drink and had people vote on it in their Bassano-based bar.

The Montegrappa Mule drink is a variation of the Moscow Mule, with the main spirit of vodka replaced by grappa, a popular Italian drink in the brandy family. What really brings it all full-circle is that grappa is traditionally distilled using copper equipment, so it all comes together very nicely. It’s evident a lot of thought was put into this theme. They’re even including a matching copper mug with the pen for the initial launch, while supplies last.
