These quartz points are from HuangGangLiang, and commonly called Mongolian or Inner Mongolian quartz. When the primary inclusion is hedenbergite, enough to give the quartz a greenish tint, it is more appropriately called hedenbergite quartz.

This isn't your typically shiny quartz crystal; the points have a matte luster with a sheen effect, producing a ghostly appearance. Broken ends reveal the first generation of growth was an icy clear colorless quartz. A second generation of growth occurred, depositing a layer of cloudy hedenbergite-included quartz. Hedenbergite is often green-to-olive-brown in color, and gives the quartz a dull greenish gray hue. Some hedenbergite quartz like one this produce an odd grainy effect just under the surface near the tip. Inclusions make the point near-opaque in the top third but translucent below this.

The specimen has sprouting growth forms. It is sprinkled both with whitish rice-like quartz crystals, and imprints of crystals that have dissolved. The small dark spheres included inside the crystal and dotting the surface may be goethite or hedenbergite, but on other specimens they have a near-metallic luster resembling pyrite. The spots also may simply be iron or chlorite!

Good book!
Format: Paperback
Very helpful book for pathophysiology. The CD not only gives you answers to the case studies but gives you clear details of the clinical Pathophysiology of a particular disease. Definitely recommend it to students going for their Master's degree!

No Answers Provided to Case Studies
Format: Paperback
The cases are helpful; however, realize that there are NO answers whatsoever to the questions presented in the cases--not a huge problem I suppose, b/c you can google everything, but certainly an annoyance. (esp. when there are multiple possible answers. The author states in the foreword that some of the cases are real; in which case, why not provide the justification presented in the patient's chart as to why that patient takes a particular drug, esp. considering that you may take a drug for its side effects rather than its therapeutic effect. . .anyhow. . ) I think if the author provided at least SOME insight/guidance to the cases that it would be much more helpful, but until then, I'm skeptical as to why others gave this book 5 stars.

Format: Paperback
Used this for a Patho class and thought it was a great resource. My group had hypertension and it was really good about giving an overview of the disease without overwhelming you with information. Some of the studies were obvious as to why the disorder occurred but in those cases it helped link body systems and show interactions.
