An exceptionally rare and enchanting Victorian French locket, designed in the form of a fully three dimensional rose bud. This extraordinary piece captures the romance and technical brilliance of 19th century jewellery at its finest.

The exterior is entirely enamelled in beautifully lifelike colours, the delicate petals shaded to mimic a natural pink rose. The craftsmanship is remarkable. Each curve and fold rendered with painterly detail, creating a jewel that feels almost botanical in its realism.

The rose bud gently opens to reveal a hidden locket compartment within, complete with its original moving glass panel designed to secure a cherished photograph or keepsake. Along the side, a wonderful hand engraving reads “F.E.B 1853,” anchoring the piece firmly in the mid Victorian period and suggesting a date of deep personal significance.

Intriguingly, each component of the locket is also marked with the number 13. Most likely an assembly number from its creation, yet charmingly suggestive of a sentimental or “lucky” association.

This remarkable jewel is French origin, crafted in high carat gold, between 18 and 22 carat, as reflected in its rich colour and fine quality. The contrast between the warm gold and blue enamel interior is especially beautiful. 

A true collector’s piece. Rare, romantic and technically superb. This is not simply a locket, but a miniature work of art. A poetic survivor from 1853, preserving love and craftsmanship in equal measure.

MATERIAL: 22 - 18 Carat Gold with a French Eagle mark 

DIMENSIONS: approx 25mm x 13mm 

WEIGHT: 4.5 grams approximately 

CONDITION: lovely antique condition and ready to wear and be loved. There is the expect patina of wear to the gold and enamel with a larger chip at the bottom of the rose as it is worm. there is a minnow chip to the bottom of the glass panel on the inside and the opening and closing is secure.
